Save the date — The Gap Year: Musical Edition + other announcements
Hey all!
Just a friendly reminder to mark your calendars for our next Gap Year. We’ll meet Friday, September 30th at 6pm. Keep your eyes open for another email with links to the pieces we’ll be listening to.
After this meeting, we’ll turn our attention back to literature. For October, we’ll read some spooky seasonal short stories from H.P. Lovecraft — “The Call of Cthulhu” and “The Dunwich Horror”. Many collected editions of Lovecraft’s work exist, but you can read both stories for free online here. I’ve provided a poll below to get a feel for which day in October works for the most people, but also feel free to respond to this email with whatever days work for you.
After that, we’ll take a few months to read Persian Letters by Montesquieu, and meet to discuss it sometime over winter break, probably January. Our resident political philosophy expert, Danielle, has kindly agreed to help guide our discussion of this satirical Enlightenment-era epistolary novel. We’ll be reading the Mauldon translation from Oxford World’s Classics, which you can purchase here.
See you soon!
