Hey everyone,
Thanks to all who participated in our reading and discussion of St. Augustine’s Confessions. I’ll admit that for me, it was probably the most challenging read that we’ve done yet. A number of you seemed to agree. Nonetheless, books like that are in many ways why I started The Gap Year to begin with: to challenge and grow us through encounters with other minds who have both shaped our world and see it from a different vantage point, to find moments of commonality and difference.
For our next book, we’ll read Ovid’s Metamorphoses, a collection of tales from Greek and Roman myth told as a (very) long poem. Since it’s something of a tome, and because a number of people are traveling this summer, we’ll meet to discuss it sometime in August. Additionally, we’ll have suggested readings for those who, for whatever reason, aren’t inclined to read the whole thing. We’ll be reading the Penguin Classics edition, translated by David Raeburn, which you can order from New Dominion Bookshop here.
Thank you all for being a part of this. Hope you have a great summer, and happy reading!
Robbie
