Hi everyone! First up I’d love for us to find a date for our Metamophoses discussion. If you could vote on the date(s) that work best for you it would be enormously helpful!
Next, a couple of fun links and pieces of media in the Metamophoses realm.
I may not have had the chance to go physically to Greece like Gap Year member Lucy, but I have spend many hours in Greece via text this summer. I’ve read both Song of Achilles & Circe by Madeline Miller. I loved Song of Achilles; Circe was just “good” IMO.
I’m currently listening to Mythos by Stephen Fry while knitting a cardigan for Etta. The book is very enjoyable and uses Metamorphoses as a source text. I think it’s especially good to listen to since Stephen Fry is a brilliant performer! I checked it our via Libby, but here’s a $ link.
Last up - an episode of In Our Time all about Ovid! I’ll be the first to admit In Our Time can be very British and sometimes dull, but I do really enjoy listening to cheeky host Melvyn Bragg interview panels of experts about a huge range of topics. This is a great place to start if you’d like an overview of Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso aka Ovid.
I hope some of these links will get you interested in reading Metamorphoses! If you’d prefer listening to the poems here’s the Audible Link.
Thanks for being a part of this unique reading group.
With joy,
Jen
